“1982’s anti-nuclear march in New York City drew an estimated crowd of 1 million. The 1963 Civil Rights March on Washington drew 250,000. 1969 anti-Vietnam war march in Washington was attended by an estimated 500,000-600,000. 1995’s Million Man March was attended by 400,000-1.1 million. In 1993, the LGBT March for equal rights had a crowd of 800,00-1 million.

There has never been anything in US history like the Women’s March. It is nationwide, and proof that the American people are not going accept the agenda of the Trump administration without a serious fight.”

Huffington Post has some highlights of creative signs made for the march in Washington D.C.

Madonna said at the Women’s March in Washington D.C. “welcome to the revolution of love…today marks the beginning of our story, the revolution starts here, the fight for the right to be free from tyranny…we are not afraid, we are not alone, we will not back down, there is power in our unity…true solidarity…it is the beginning of change that will require sacrifice people…are you ready?”

I was obliged to work today at Ski Santa fe and therefore couldn’t attend the local march in Santa fe. However, here are some photos and video footage of the local Santa fe’s turnout for the international women (and men’s) march expressing desire for compassion over hatred and joy over anger…and each of their motivations for being there; social rights, animal rights, reverence for nature and its creatures…

My favorite journalist currently, George Monbiot, writes about the environment and necessarily, about politics and monetary greed, since the latter block awareness and action towards taking obvious actions to guard our planet and its creatures. In his most recent article, published in the Guardian on the 19th of January, 2007. “The Pollution Paradox: Dirty industries spend more on politics, keeping us in the fossil age.” He states poignantly,

“Make America Wait Again. That’s what Donald Trump’s energy policy amounts to. Stop all the clocks, put the technological revolution on hold, ensure that the transition from fossil fuels to clean power is delayed for as long as possible.”

Monbiot describes the changes accompanying ‘climate change/global warming’ which will lead to “the end of civilizations and many of the people they support. If this happens, it will amount to the greatest crime ever committed. And members of Trump’s proposed cabinet are among the leading perpetrators.

In their careers so far, they have championed the fossil fuel industry while contesting the measures intended to prevent climate breakdown. They appear to have considered the need of a few exceedingly rich people to protect their foolish investments for a few more years, weighed it against the benign climatic conditions that have allowed humanity to flourish, and decided that the foolish investments are more important.”

Strength in numbers and adding your voice and actions.
