Portrait of a guy

Here’s a portrait of a guy I drew in about 15 minutes, after we did an even shorter portrait exchange. It was an evening when I needed to quickly make some money and brought my sketchbook with me. We not only laughed and had fun, drawing one another and then doodling more, but I made the money I needed to as well.

Sketching is an honorable profession — just ask Leonardo! I hope you don’t have to wait posthumously like he did; for a great payoff, though. Beauty is what beauty represents. Do you create in a trance? You have a skill that I never developed, but I still love art.

Picture the entire world of 7.6 billion souls and the chance that any one person would interact with another. Please maintain your good health for us through the exercise, study and independence of a 19-year-old woman! May your summer days be short in shadow yet extended in time.

One way to appreciate a portrait is its effect in eliciting a personality. You calmly reproduce the subject while others make shopping mall caricatures. You choose to draw your image and imagination, proudly introducing a living artwork to the Earth. This man will thrive through his likeness.
